A BIA is a defined stretch of main street where the businesses collectively fund improvements, marketing and events. Toronto has more of them than any city in North America, and they are a good proxy for how alive a commercial strip actually is — an active BIA usually means street festivals, planted boulevards and low vacancy.

Names, boundaries and websites are taken from the City of Toronto’s own BIA List, read on 18 August 2026. The grouping into seven regions is ours, chosen to match the neighbourhood guide, and is not a City designation — a few BIAs sit near a boundary and could reasonably be placed either side. Eleven areas have no website published by the City; those cards link to the City directory instead. BIAs are created and amended by City Council, so check the directory for the current position. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, tiles © CARTO; each map is centred approximately on the strip described and does not show the BIA’s exact boundary.
