The Annex is the stretch of large Victorian and Edwardian houses west of Avenue Road and north of Bloor, and it has one of the most distinctive residential fabrics in the city — wide brick and sandstone houses, deep lots, and mature trees on almost every street. Its proximity to the university has meant that a great many of these houses were divided into flats over the decades, and a significant part of the current market is the reverse process: buyers converting them back to single-family homes. That makes for a wide spread in condition and price within the same few blocks. It is also among the best-served neighbourhoods in the city for transit, shops and schools.
