Guildwood was planned in the fifties as a self-contained community above the eastern bluffs, and it remains distinctly separate from what surrounds it — curving streets, generous lots, mature trees and a strong residents’ association. Guild Park and Gardens, with its collection of architectural fragments salvaged from demolished Toronto buildings, sits at the southern edge above the lake and is genuinely unusual. Guildwood GO puts Union within about half an hour, which is the practical advantage that sustains the neighbourhood. Turnover is low and houses are often held for decades.
