Rexdale is a broad area in the northwest corner of the city, developed largely in the fifties and sixties, and it is one of the most culturally diverse parts of Toronto — with commercial strips reflecting large South Asian, Caribbean and West African communities. Housing is mixed: postwar detached houses and bungalows on quiet residential streets, and substantial clusters of rental apartment towers along the arterials. It has historically offered some of the most affordable freehold housing in the city. Woodbine Racetrack and the airport lands are major employers nearby.
