Neighbourhood guide  /  West End

St. Clair West

A busy transit corridor with varied housing on the streets running off it.

St. Clair West describes the corridor running west from Bathurst, and the neighbourhoods along it change character noticeably every few blocks — Hillcrest and Wychwood to the east, Corso Italia to the west, with a mix of housing types in between. The dedicated streetcar right-of-way makes it one of the more reliable surface transit corridors in the city. Housing includes semis and detached houses on the side streets, low-rise apartment buildings along the avenue, and a growing amount of newer mid-rise. It is a corridor rather than a single neighbourhood, and buyers should treat it that way.

Housing stock

Semi-detached and detached houses on the side streets; low-rise and newer mid-rise along the avenue.

Who buys here

A genuinely mixed market — first-time buyers, families, downsizers and investors.

Transit

The 512 St Clair streetcar on its own right-of-way; St Clair West station on the Spadina line.

Worth checking

Character shifts block to block along the corridor. Judge the specific street, not the avenue.
