The Junction takes its name from the meeting of four rail lines, and it was an independent town with its own industry before annexation — a history that left a wide main street of substantial Victorian commercial buildings along Dundas West. It was dry until the turn of this century, which slowed its commercial change and is part of why the strip retained so many original storefronts. The residential streets hold a mix of workers cottages, Victorian semis and larger detached houses, with real variation in scale within a few blocks.
