Cabbagetown is often described as the largest continuous area of preserved Victorian housing on the continent, and walking it makes the claim credible — street after street of restored semi-detached and detached brick homes, many with the original detail intact, on lots that feel generous for a neighbourhood this close to the core. It has a strong residents’ association, a heritage conservation district over much of it, and a genuine sense of neighbourhood identity. The trade-off is the one heritage always brings: renovation is constrained, approvals take longer, and the work costs more. Buyers who want a Victorian house downtown and are prepared for that generally end up here.
