The Entertainment District runs west from University to Spadina, south of Queen. It was warehouses and printing houses before it was clubs, and it is now mostly glass — one of the densest concentrations of new condominium construction anywhere in the country. The draw is obvious: you can walk to the theatres, the arena, the rail corridor and most of the financial district. The trade-off is equally obvious, and worth taking seriously. Weekend nights on the club blocks are loud, and the streets that are quiet on a Tuesday viewing are not quiet on a Saturday. Buyers who thrive here want the city at street level and are indifferent to a garden.
Almost entirely condominium apartments, from converted warehouses to towers of forty storeys and up.
Young professionals, downsizers who want walkability, and investors — a high proportion of units are tenanted.
Streetcar on King and Queen, subway a short walk north, Union Station within fifteen minutes on foot.
Ask which side of the building a unit faces and visit at night before you commit. Noise varies enormously block to block.
