Parkdale was a wealthy lakeside suburb before the Gardiner cut it off from the water, and the evidence is still standing — some of the largest Victorian houses in the city, many divided into apartments during the decades that followed. It is now one of the most economically and culturally mixed neighbourhoods in Toronto, with a large rental population, a strong Tibetan community along Queen West, and a steady flow of buyers drawn by the housing stock. The market here rewards care: condition, legal use and tenancy status vary enormously between houses that look similar from the street.
