Roncesvalles Avenue is one of the most successful main streets in the city — independent shops, bakeries and cafés along a stretch that people genuinely walk rather than drive. The neighbourhood behind it is Edwardian: wide-fronted semis and detached houses, deeper and more generous than the Victorian stock further east, on streets with mature trees.
