Neighbourhood guide  /  East End

Little India

The Gerrard India Bazaar, with affordable brick housing on the streets around it.

Little India — the Gerrard India Bazaar — runs along Gerrard Street East around Coxwell, and it is one of the most distinctive commercial strips in the city: sari shops, jewellers, groceries and restaurants concentrated in a few busy blocks. The residential streets around it hold modest brick semis and rowhouses, historically among the more affordable house stock in the east end, and the neighbourhood has drawn steady interest from buyers who want to be close to both Leslieville and the Danforth without paying for either. It remains genuinely mixed and locally rooted.
