Yonge and Eglinton is the commercial centre of midtown and has changed more than any other part of it over the past two decades. The intersection itself is dense: office towers, a shopping centre, cinemas and a run of condominium buildings that keeps growing. Walk two or three streets in any direction and it becomes residential very quickly — brick semis and detached houses on ordinary lots, many renovated. That contrast is the neighbourhood’s defining feature and the thing to test for yourself: an apartment at the corner and a house on Roselawn are different propositions entirely. The Eglinton Crosstown has been the dominant fact of life here for years, and its completion changes the transit calculation considerably.
