Thorncliffe Park

A dense apartment community on a bend of the Don, among the most diverse in the city.

Written by Nick Ntoukas, Toronto realtor · Chestnut Park Real Estate · Updated August 2026

Thorncliffe Park was built in the sixties as a planned apartment community on the site of a former racetrack, and it remains one of the densest and most diverse neighbourhoods in Toronto — a concentration of high-rise rental and condominium buildings serving a largely immigrant population, with one of the largest elementary schools in the country at its centre. The Don Valley wraps around it, giving genuine green space and a degree of physical isolation from the surrounding city. Buying here is generally an apartment purchase, and often an investment one; the market behaves differently from the house neighbourhoods nearby.
